Prof.
Satyendra Nath Ghosh was born in Calcutta on February 1,
1918. He received D.Sc. degree in Physics in the year
1948 from University of Calcutta.His specialization is
in the field of Applied Physics, Electonics,
Communication and Upper Atmosphere. He has published
more than 250 research papers in Indian & Foreign
journals and 65 students have been awarded Ph.D and
D.Sc. degrees under his guidance. He has been the
founder Head of the J K Institute of Applied Physics &
Technology, University of Allahabad, Dean Faculty of
Science (Thrice) University of Allahabad, Sir Rashbehary
Ghosh Professor of Applied Physics, Calcutta University,
Emeritus Professor of S.N. Bose School of Mathematics
and Mathematical Sciences, Kolkata. He is a Fellow of
Indian National Science Academy, Fellow of National
Academy of Sciences, Founder Fellow of west Bengal
Academy of Science & Technology, Fellow of Indian
Physical Society, Fellow of Institution of
Instrumentation Scientists & Technologists, Member of
Sigma XI, INSA, Fellow of IETE and Member of Indian
Astronomical Society. Prof. Ghosh has published seven
volumes of collected works and several books. He was
Editor of Indian Journal of Radio & Space Physics,
Indian Journal of Physics, Proceedings of National
Academy of Science. He was visiting Professor at
University of Michigan for three years. He has received
numerous awards and honours, including prestigious
Sampurnanand Prize of National Academy of Science in
1960. He has been President of Engineering and
Metallurgy section of Indian Science Congress in 1973
and INSA (1985). He is also a trustee of Indian
Association for Cultivation of Science, Kolkata.

Born
at Ranikhet (Utranchal), Prof. Bisht obtained degrees of
B.Sc. & M. Sc. (Tech) from University of Allahabad in
year 1955 & 1958 respectively. He has a first class
academic career right upto M.Sc. (Tech) where he was
placed second in order of merit. He joined the JK
Institute in 1958 as lecturer and retired as Professor &
HOD on 30-06-1997 after a service of 39 years. He was
the Head of the Department from 1974 to 1997 and Dean
Faculty of Science from 1993 to 1996. He has published
several research papers and supervised many R&D
MHRD/AICTE/UGC/CSDIR/DOE projects. He has taken extra
training at LRDE-Bangalore (1858) and York Technology,
Southampton, UK (1989). He has visited UK, Germany and
France.
Prof.
Bisht has been the President of Society of Electronic
Engineers & JK Alumni Association till 1997; one of the
directors of UP Hill Electronics (for three years);
Chairman, USIC Administrative Committee and Computer
Centre Advisory Committee (till 1997). He actively
participated in Teacher s Movement of the University and
has been Vice-President (1977-81) and President of AUTA
(1981-82). He has been member of different bodies of the
university such as BOS, Faculty Board of Science,
Academic Council and Executive Council (three times)
etc. He has also been the member of BOS & Selection
Committee of several universities, UGC Committees,
MHRD/AICTE Committees and PCS & other services.
After
his retirement from the university in June 1997, he
became member of Higher Education Service Commission, UP
and also served it as an acting Chairman & Chairman from
18-10-98 to 30-06-1999. He has also worked as Liaison
Officer for AU with DRDO for the DRDO Sponsored Project,
Member- Planning Board - AU, Member, BOG, KNIT Sultanpur
(1998-2001), Member BOG, Radha Govind Engg. College and
Institute of Information & Management, and Member
University Court, BHU. He was the Member of
Search/Selection Committee for VC of Kumaun University
in 1998 and Chairman, Board of Apprenticeship Training
(northern region),GOI(MHRD) from 2001 to Jan 2005. He is
life fellow member of IETE.

U.P., Prof Ashok Kumar Gupta took his early schooling in
Sambhal and Moradabad and University Education in
Allahabad University (BSc. (Physics Chemistry and
Mathematics), 1960, M.Sc. (Physics with Specialization
in Electronics), 1962, First Class, First in Order of
Merit. He has been the Head of the Department and
Professor in Computer Science, Department of Electronics
and Communication, J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and
Technology, Allahabad University, from 1997 to 2006,
Director, Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies,
Allahabad University, and Coordinator, M.Sc.
Bioinformatics Program.
The
past positions held by Prof. Gupta are : Member,

to June 2005; Member, Board of Governors, and Member,
General Council, Inter University Centre for Astronomy

In past
he has worked in several areas in theoretical and
experimental physics including 4 years of work in United
States, United Kingdom, and Italy. He has approximately
50 research publications. Some of the areas in which
research work has been done in the past are:
Superconductivity theory, Magnetism theory, Ultrasonic
attenuation (experimental work), Electron correlations
in metals, Electronic structure of transition metals and
alloys.
He has
supervised Five students have been received Ph.D. degree
under his supervision. The topics were:
Superconductivity theory, Ultrasonic attenuation studies
in binary critical mixtures, Electronic structure of
alloys, Properties of carbon-filled fibers, Heuristic
and evolutionary computational techniques in graph and
grouping problems. He has also supervised the M.Sc.,
B.Tech, and M.Tech. projects of about 200 students on
various topics. They include: Artificial Intelligence,
Evolutionary Computation, Neural Networks, Artificial
Life, Cellular Automaton, Fractals and Chaos, Computer
Graphics, Computer Vision and Image Processing,
Statistical Properties of Networks, Computational
Biology.

Born in
1945, after graduating from Allahabad University in 1964
(Gold Medalist), Prof. Prakash took M.Sc. (Physics)
degree in 1966. Thereafter he joined Physics Department
as a research scholar and awarded D.Phil. degree in 1969
for research work in field of Electroluminescence. He
was awarded National & CSIR fellowships. He joined JK
Institute as a lecturer in 1970 and went to USSR in 1977
for three years for post Doctoral work in the field of
Electrets. He was promoted to the post of Reader in 1984
and Professor in 1994. He has published over 55 research
papers in various journals and has supervised 7 D.Phil
theses in field of Electroluminescence & Electrets and
guided some research projects. He has 36 years of
teaching experience in the field of solid state devices.
lie has attended and organized several National/
International conferences. He is member of National
Academy of Science, India and fellow member of IETE. He
has served JETE Allahabad local centre as Chairman
during 2004-06. He has published books on Solid State
Physics in 1986, Statistical Mechanics in 1988, and
Problems in Physics and review article in Wiley
Encyclopedia in 1999. At present, he is Professor &
Head, Dept. of Electronics & Communication, University
of Allahabad, Allahabad. He took the charge of HOD on
