The Department
of Electronics and Communication, J.K. Institute of
Applied Physics and Technology is located in the campus
of Science Faculty of the University of Allahabad. Its
foundation stone was laid by Late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru,
the first Prime Minister of India, on April 14, 1949 and
it was formally inaugurated by him on April 4, 1956.
J.K. Charitable Trust contributed for the construction
of the complete building structure of the Institute. JK
Institute owes its name to Late Lala Juggilal Singhania,
a dynamic personality with a broad vision. Inspired by
the cause of the Swadeshi movement of Mahatma Gandhi,
and driven by the zeal to set up an indian enterprise,
Lala Kamlapat Singhania founded J.K. Organisation in the
19th century ushering in a new industrial era in India.
They financially support the foundation of Institute.

It
is a pioneer department in the country for teaching and
research in the disciplines of Electronics,
Communication and Computer Science. Under the leadership
of Prof. S.N. Ghosh, its first Head, this department
took significant strides and established itself as an
institution of repute.
The J.K.
Institute was conceived and created to train students in
the highest international standards, and to provide
leadership in technological innovation for the
industrial growth of independent India It is well-
recognized that J.K. Institute has been successful in
achieving these goals. The J.K. Institute does not
produce only engineers, it also produce leaders.
Ever since its
inception, J.K. Institute has strived to develop into an
institution of excellence in education and research in
accordance with the present and future needs of India.
In meeting this challenge, the Institute has always been
making special efforts to recruit talented faculty and
to admit brilliant students from all over the country by
a careful selection procedure. Continuous efforts have
been made to provide the faculty with world class
facilities and to enable them to participate in national
endeavours of Science and Technology. J.K. Institute of
applied physics & technology is involved with carrying
out original research of significance and cutting edge
technology development. It imparts training to students
so that they become competent, motivated engineers and
scientists.
The Institute,
by means of its’ involvement In a myriad of
extracurricular activities, not only celebrates freedom
of thought, cultivates vision and encourages growth, but
also inculcates human values and concern for the
society. The Alumni of J.K. Institute who are an
embodiment of these qualities and talents, have been
serving the society for many decades and there is every
reason to believe that the Institute will continue to
produce such personalities in the future as well. 
The department
conducts courses in the fields of Electronics and
Communication leading to the degrees of Bachelor of
Technology and Master of Technology. These courses are
designed to meet the current challenging demands of the
nation. The postgraduate course in Computer Science was
started in the year 1986. The Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) had selected the
Institute as a centre to generate manpower in Computer
Science (Software).
In a span of
nearly fifty years, the alumni of the Department have
made significant mark in the field of Communication,
Electronics and Computer Science both in India and
abroad. In USA, many alumni are holding Professor’s post
in well known Universities. and Institutes. In Europe,
many are associated with computer and communication
establishments such as Phillips, Alcatel, IBM, Bell
Telephone etc. Our students are contributing towards the
technical advancement of our country and are holding
very senior positions in various government and semi
government organizations like MTNL, IIT, CEERI, ISRO
etc. Besides that they are also holding good positions
in various educational institutions and private sectors. |
